Vision Junior School

The school was established in 2013 after an overwhelming demand from the community who had seen it fit to have such a school, within the community at a place that had people with proven responsibility and credibility.

It was not an easy decision to take for our directors since this meant foregoing areas that used to be their source of income, as the outbuildings that were only available were now to be used in this project. Whenever there are new project proposal there is always the risk factor that people have to take into consideration, which normally include such things like viability, competitiveness and machinery to run the project.

Because of determination, Vision Junior School came into being ni 2013 and this meant quite a sacrifice was injected. Our Directors managed to raise funds to buy various things to kick start this project as competent as already established schools surrounding. Still faced with challenges in the form of student enrolment qualified teachers, desks, benches and books the school opened its doors to a very small intake in 2013.

In 2014 there was marked improvement in all spheres compared to the previous year. The enrolment improved significantly and we also got better teachers to teach our children. With the small fees that we charged, we also managed to buy some desks, benches and books for the school.

In 2015 we  partitioned after recommendations of officials from the Ministry of Education all classrooms to suit in with the sitting capacity that is needed for children in a class. This made it difficult to have the same sitting only in the mornings only so ended up having an afternoon session which is now of an equal number to the one in the morning. This is pure indication that the community is continuously having faith with our school to such an extent that they are removing their children from other schools and bringing them to our school.

HOPELY

At this juncture, Iwould like to talk about the encatchment area of our children. Hopely was initial a farm which then was ni the 2007 designated for residential purposes. It is my understanding that the structures here have to be temporary structures until such time that the authorities will see if fit to do so or until most of the roads and sewer developments are complete. We happen to have got the permanent structures available and these are the structures we have now turned into this school.

With that in mind, most of residents in this residential area are of low income earners and this poses one of our biggest challenges i.e. payment of fees. It is quite touching that most households that have children attending this school cannot afford to pay the fees that we after consideration lowered to least figures as a gesture of showing the community our commitment for educating every child in our environment without maximising profits.

In this same year of 2014 we managed to rebuild some of the classes that needed attention and partitioned them so that they would suit with teaching principles i.e. no disturbing of other classes when session is in progress.

Our first Grade Seven sitting completed its primary education during this year but sadly they wrote their exams ni Highfield because we were not registered as a centre. We sincerely hope this will be tales of the past as far as 2015 is concerned.

YEAR 2015

This particular year took us by surprise on the turnout of children. This huge turnout was a result of the faith the community has on the school and its administration. The grade seven results showed that the school was on track as there was a marked improvement on the passrate which was 50% if am to measure by symbols attained at this sitting. This on its own was enough testimony to the high level of education we were impacting.

REGISTRATION

Since its inception in 2013 we always wanted to register the school with the Ministry of Education but only managed it this year. Officers from the Ministry eventually visited the school and had a thorough inspection of the premises. They saw it fit to register the school with the Ministry of Education. As law-abiding citizens, we have also had discussions with the District Administrator who also gave us her support same as the city fathers – the City of Harare in whose jurisdiction we fall into. We hope to get all papers in order as they are currently being done.

2015 ENROLMENT

We have a block of classrooms housing all grades from Grade 0 to grade 7 and as of now, we have +450 children already learning. Some of the children in class, as clearly shown in the above picture our classrooms have become congested this year due to the overwhelming response of the community. As required by the Ministry, this congestion is not recommended thereby prompting us into building another block as a matter of urgency.
